Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC is an international human rights lawyer and a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, London. Over the past 20 years she has acted in many landmark cases on a wide range of human rights issues in the UK and internationally, before the European Court of Human Rights, international courts and UN bodies. This has included acting for the bereaved families and survivors of the 7/7 London Bombings and the Hillsborough Disaster; and in cases which have changed the law on a range of issues including the treatment of children in police custody, State duties to homeless children, reproductive rights in Northern Ireland and the discriminatory impact of welfare cuts. Internationally, Caoilfhionn has acted for, and secured the freedom of, many arbitrarily detained journalists, cartoonists, peaceful protestors and human rights defenders around the world, including in Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
